The Human Canvas
Both graffiti and tattoos are declarations made outside official channels; marks applied to surfaces, skin or steel, that say I was here, and I believe this. Neither asks permission, both send a message. In a moment where it feels like an increasing share of the population is being quietly written off and our culture feels more fake; there's something honest about making prominent marks/declarations on skin and steel. The train car becomes a body. The tag becomes a statement of faith, or the loss of it. This piece is in progress, but the gist is that it's two grey N scale train cars with a message graffitied onto the sides of the cars and elsewhere throughout the piece One note; consistent with the idea/culture of graffiti and artists being anonymous, the artist name for this piece must be labeled "Scratchy"
