Description

In the tattoo industry, artists will often create a portfolio of sketches and offer a selected number of them for a flash sale event. I took this idea and created my own wooden Flash Book of six sketches inspired by Native American symbols and stylized yoga poses. Historical tattoos would have been made with natural pigments and I honored that tradition that by using only indigo powder as well as hand processed red ochre I sourced from Stark Park in Manchester. The wood is a piece reclaimed from the trash and I sanded it smooth so that the edges feel worn to the touch as though the "artist" has been using this flash book for some time. The Flash Book opens on two hinges; a playful, interactive experience with the sculpture.
