Shaping Ourselves

Description

This piece explores the experience of leaving toxic environments, bad habits, and the internal struggle that comes with it. A burning house in the distance represents something familiar but ultimately destructive. In the foreground, one version of the subject follows a glowing wisp, while another guides it. The two figures represent different versions of the self: one still in the moment, and one that has already found the strength to move forward. The wisp symbolizes the idea that sometimes, when no one else is there to guide you, you have to become that for yourself. Created through self-portraiture, costuming, and compositing, the image leans into a dreamlike, slightly eerie atmosphere to reflect the isolation, fear, and uncertainty of choosing a new path.
