Description

I painted this piece in 2025 during a panic attack. I struggle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and for most of last year my mental health was the lowest it’s been in almost a decade. During a similarly low period in 2017 I visited the Scottish Highlands and was struck by the beauty of the mountains. They became somewhat of a visual mantra that I kept returning to: nothing can be so bad if mountains like those exist. Last year I painted one of those mountains to break out of a mental spiral. This year, in a much happier and more stable place, I returned to the painting and added some playful strokes in the sky. In doing so this piece has come full circle for me multiple times over, holding who I was ten years ago, who I was last year, and who I am today.
