"Know Now Then" is a 3D mosaic created on wire mesh and mounted on 1/2" black MDF. The materials are Italian glass smalti, 24K gold smalti, beads, Sculpey clay, MDF, acrylic paint and thinset mortar. The design is my interpretation of a stylized lesbian flag flying in the wind. It's a celebration of lesbian love. I came out late in life (40) and my identity as a lesbian is very precious to me. I spent many years confused about why I didn't feel like my authentic self. I guess I'm a late bloomer. The title, "Know Now Then" comes from the title of an Ani DiFranco song that contains the sentiment about a female relationship that should have been closer, and the line "I didn't know what I know now then".
