where to even begin. this began as a painting, a tryptech, many years ago. after many listings and moves, this painting started to need a new life. a new meaning. I’ve been working on collages a lot in the past year. a couple months ago while I was collaging, collecting pieces, I came across this. a Viven Leigh book. I have always had a special interest in old movie stars. the glamour that oozed out of them. I found this picture of her with Laurence Olivier. it started with some color on the page. directly on the stars. I loved the simplicity of adding layers to a photograph. later I moved it to a canvas and started adding layers. so many layers. this painting has been through a lot. cut up maps, poems, paint on top of paint, layers of collaboration that form this rough colorful landscape. it begs you to pull your fingers over it.
