Build a Giant: Community Puppet Making Workshop

Join Jyl Dittbenner of JylDrawsEveryday and Liz Pieroni of Mosaic Art Collective for a hands-on workshop that’s open to everyone. Together we’ll build larger-than-life puppets to march in the Manchester Holiday Parade!

Inspired by the towering cardboard-and-cloth puppets of Vermont’s Bread and Puppet Theater, we’ll learn techniques for making big, bold figures that can be carried or worn. You’ll shape heads and bodies from cardboard, drape them in fabric, and build connection points sturdy enough to last a parade route. You don’t need any experience, just imagination and a willingness to get a little glue on your hands.

We’ll provide: cardboard, fabric, glue guns, duct tape, and other glues and building materials.

Bring if you have them: extra glue guns, X-Acto knives or box cutters, and spare fabric. An old backpack also makes a great harness for wearing your puppet.

Please register in advance so we know how many materials to have ready.

As the lights of the holidays slowly dim we are left in the stillness and quiet of the darkest time of the year. Betray the Dark is an invitation for artists to meet the darkness honestly, what does it feel like to sit inside difficult seasons of the mind and about the moments where the light is found and made.

We're not looking for work that only performs pain, and we're not looking for work that rushes to resolve it. We want to see the in-between — searching, surviving, breaking through, holding on. Work that betrays the dark by refusing to let it have the final word.

Throughout the month, the gallery will also host community workshops and healing sessions led by mental health professionals and practitioners across a range of modalities, so this show lives alongside real support, not just imagery of struggle.

What We're Looking For

Original work in any visual medium (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media, fiber, printmaking, etc.)
Work that engages authentically with mental health — grief, anxiety, depression, resilience, recovery, identity, isolation, connection, or hope
Artists at any stage of their career; lived experience matters as much as formal training

Having exhibited across the American, European, and Asian continents, Florent brings a global perspective to their practice. Step into a world where hidden hands shape unexpected creations. Exquisite Corpse is a group exhibition inspired by the surrealist game that stitches together fragments into uncanny, dreamlike wholes.

This show revels in the strange and the unexpected—the beauty that surfaces when imagination collides in pieces. Some works echo the traditional collaborative format, where unseen segments merge into a single form; others stretch the theme into realms of fragmentation, the eerie, the whimsical, and the grotesque.

Haunting or playful, unsettling or slyly humorous, each piece whispers secrets from the shadows—inviting you to assemble your own narrative from what lies before you.

Enter if you dare, and witness what emerges when visions intertwine in the dark.

Equality then. Equality now. A legacy of solidarity, self-determination, and the ongoing fight for justice.

WomenWise was a pioneering health-based newspaper published from 1974 to 1994 by Equality Health Center, then known as the Concord Feminist Health Center. The community this publication cultivated serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective learning, mutual support, and shared power. This exhibition honors that legacy—reviving the rich history of the women's movement and illuminating the women who have influenced our lives and our art.

A partnership exhibition between Mosaic Art Collective and Equality Health Center, WomenWise brings together art, history, and community to highlight the stories and strength of women across generations.

In celebration of Women's History Month, local artists present original works in a range of mediums that honor the strength, resilience, and beauty of all women—cis, queer, trans, and beyond. Through their art, they share the stories, connections, and inspirations that shape their view of womanhood, empowerment, and community.

Light and dark work together to evoke larger and deeper meanings. This exhibition features work that emphasizes the space that surrounds, the light that reveals, and the dimensionality that results from both.

The artists in this show explore how absence can hold as much meaning as presence — how light can carve form, suggest movement, or create emotional resonance, and how darkness might function as a container, a threshold, or a place of rest. Across a range of media and approaches, these works engage with architectural voids, shadows, silhouettes, atmospheric light, quiet intervals, and the tension between what is visible and what is implied.

The Human Canvas at Mosaic Art Collective brings together works that explore this rich tradition in all its complexity — from the intimate bond between artist and skin to the permanence of ink as a vessel for personal narrative and cultural identity. The exhibition traces tattoo culture across its many dimensions: hand-tapped ancestral techniques, the aesthetics of rebellion, the reclamation of marked bodies, and the evolving dialogue between folk tradition and fine art.\n\nSpanning photography, painting, sculpture, video, installation, and mixed media, the works on view invite visitors to consider tattooing not merely as decoration but as a living archive — simultaneously sacred and subversive, deeply individual and profoundly communal. Whether examining ritual, transformation, heritage, or resistance, The Human Canvas celebrates an enduring practice that turns the body itself into a site of art and meaning.","startDate":"2026-06-13T21:00:00.000Z","endDate":"2026-06-13T23:00:00.000Z","price":0,"currency":"USD","type":"EXHIBITION","category":"Opening Reception","coverImageUrl":"https://craftedcall-prod-artwork-e624i1y2.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/calls/posters/1774026806800-poster.jpg","tags":["Opening Reception","Exhibition"],"locationAddressLine1":"410 Chestnut Street","locationCity":"Manchester","locationState":"NH","locationPostalCode":"03101","registrationsCount":1,"isFull":false,"suggestedDonation":false},{"id":"cmppxh1lm0dqbmo07onqjcw14","slug":"art-of-fashion-opening-reception","title":"Off The Wall - The Art of Fashion - Opening Reception","description":"

Fashion can define status, culture, and personality. What a person wears and how they wear it can reveal who they are, where they come from, and what they value. It is an essential part of human life and an industry. Fashion is also an avenue for art. Whether utilitarian or outlandish, it is an expression that is integrated with everyday life.

Mosaic Art Collective in partnership with Fishtoes Vintage + Treasures is seeking submissions that represent the union of art and fashion. Works that reference, incorporate, or are themselves fashion are welcome for this juried open call. Work can be innovative or interpretive, as long as it speaks to the theme of fashion. Manchester has spent 180 years becoming itself. From the mills along the Merrimack to the neighborhoods, industries, and people who have reshaped the city again and again, its history is not one fixed moment but like the river a continuous act of change. To reflect on a place is to look closely at what came before, recognize what remains, and notice what is still unfolding.

Mosaic Art Collective is seeking submissions that explore Manchester's history, identity, and evolution over the past 180 years, including the city as it exists today. Works that reference the city's industrial past, its people, its neighborhoods, or its present moment and ongoing transformation are welcome for this juried open call. Work can be documentary or interpretive, as long as it speaks to the theme of reflection on Manchester's history and present. All media are welcome, excluding reproductions and AI generated work.

As we continue to celebrate in our new street level gallery, on our 4th anniversary as a collective, we are reflecting on the last year and everything that brought us here. Every ending carries the seed of what comes next. This exhibition invites artists to explore the cycles that shape our lives: the seasons we move through, the relationships that anchor us, the personal transformations that bring us back to ourselves in new form. Whether it's a return to an old practice, a fresh start after loss, or the quiet repetition of daily rituals, we want to see how you interpret what it means to come full circle.

We welcome work in all media that speaks to renewal, growth, connection, and the ongoing nature of change. Excluding reproductions and AI generated work.
