Description

Mothers Load was hand built with Terracotta clay, bisque fired with an Acrylic Medium cold finish. The inspiration for this sculpture is simply, the Mayhem of Motherhood and the physical and mental load a Mother-figure carries while nurturing and raising children. The process of this sculpture involved clay coil construction of the body. A solid clay head was modeled and then later hollowed out and reattached. The ceramic bottles, onesies, and toddler pants come from a press mould created with plaster of Paris. All moulded clothing, etc. were then piled onto the Mother, similar to how laundry accumulating on the floor.
