This peice is about 80% recycled materials. The 2 weaves I made sustained some damage on their bottoms, so I cut those to the good parts. The wood base for the mixed-media painting was a bad saw job, not totally square as it was supposed to be. The two pieces of wedi board the mosaics rest on are scrap pieces salvaged from previous projects. Most of the cut stone is leftover from other mosaic projects as well.
Like most artists I know, we tend to save everything in case we might need it someday. But sometimes I look around my studio & think, why am I saving all this crap?
Well, not crap. It’s usable scrap!

Artist Statement:
I am an established mosaic artist with almost 20 years experience creating fine art, functional art, and mosaic jewelry & belt buckles. My work has been in numerous juried exhibits nationally and I teach mosaic art at The Currier Museum of Art. I also enjoy fabric art, and am self taught weaving on a loom. Abstract painting is a new endeavor I dabble in when there is time. My studio is in beautiful southern New Hampshire.
