I was thinking about the connection and playfulness that comes with friendships, how we become entangled in each others lives and miss each other when we are apart. The steel leafy tendrils reach out of their spaces to one another. I created this diptych as a pair and they are hung off the wall with shadow play in mind.
Artist Name: Sarah Alexander

Dimensions: 28x36x12″
Artist Statement:
Alexander works in intricate layered detailed drawings and sculptures inspired by the artist’s garden. There is covert symbolic meaning behind each plant and seed she collects and depicts. Working in a Maximalist style, Alexander creates towers of botanical timelines as they transition from one season to another, exploring the natural order of one’s life cycle, and the dynamics of power, ritual, and succession. “
I am drawn to the symbolism of hidden botanical meanings and am intrigued by the life cycle of plants as they grow, go to seed, and emerge again. It helps me process challenges in understanding life and its mysteries.”
