I connect with Creator/God to use my heart, imagination, and hands while painting. I know I’m connected with Creator’s energy when I’m not actively planning what to do next, I just create. During the creation process, I channel Reiki to touch the hearts and minds of those reacting to each piece.
Artist Statement:
If you were to ask me two years ago that I would be writing about me being a Reiki practitioner and art. One. I wouldn’t know what you were talking about, “Rei-what??”. Second, I would have looked at you sideways, followed by a sarcastic, “Yeah… okay.”
But here I am.
On June 29, 2022 my Mom, Priscilla, passed away. From her passing I saw how delicate life truly is and what a gift we have been given – the gift of life. Her passing gave me pause to reflect on the life I was living, my life was full of anger towards myself and others, full of depression and anxiety. Through the past year I have been rediscovering who I was, the person that I had forgotten and cast aside. I had forgotten how sensitive and caring I was as a child, how I would wear my heart on my sleeve.
Though Reiki, meditation, art and journaling I learned to love and accept myself for who I am. That journey wasn’t easy, and I slip up from time-to-time, just ask my husband. But, I learned how to heal by forgiving myself and others by letting go of the past. I know from thirty years of hiding myself how terrifying it is to remove all the masks and show your true self to others. Once all your masks are removed, I PROMISE you, there is so much freedom in loving and being your true and authentic self.
