Description

Multi media sculpture made from a found rusty propane tank someone used as a shooting target with jagged sharp edges and devastating gashes… I wanted to convey the anatomy of healing in this piece by netting hand crocheted doily tissue between the sharp and disjointed metal… Like fragile, delicate bridges yet strong enough to rejoin, what was broken…I cut myself plenty of times in the process… The stand came from my baby hammock 14 years ago… It holds the piece perfectly… Inside the vessel burns a “fire”, the light within ever present even in the most grueling of wounds with life’s persistence on overcoming whatever caused injury…

Artist Statement:

Daniela Wenzel is a New Hampshire based artist, born in East Germany where her childhood was shaped by socialist politics, local artisan culture, vast mountainous landscapes and her close-knit family.

Primarily creating geometric abstractions that explore biomorphic and architectural renderings, and also narrative subject matter, her cyclical practice includes oil painting, watercolor, ink, printmaking, sculpture, driftwood pyrography and fiber work.

Daniela works intuitively, drawing inspiration from nature and architecture, fragments of memory and personal experiences. She pulls from an array of colors, patterns and shapes to create a unified and coherent visual experience that conveys her colorful artistic language.

Her practice demonstrates the power of creativity as a source of resiliency and stubborn endurance.
