Milkweed Rising

This print is made using a cardboard box as a collagraph printing plate. I manipulated nylon strapping to make the curly cues that represent the milkweed pods bursting open. I chose to depict milkweed because it is an example of how human impact on the environment has severe consequences for other species. Milkweed is the only food source for monarch butterflies, it is a native plant that used to be abundant in North America. The American desire to tame wild places and our obsession with manicured lawns has caused Milkweed to become an endangered species.
