“Know Now Then” is a 3D mosaic created on wire mesh and mounted on 1/2″ black MDF. The materials are Italian glass smalti, 24K gold smalti, beads, Sculpey clay, MDF, acrylic paint and thinset mortar. The design is my interpretation of a stylized lesbian flag flying in the wind. It’s a celebration of lesbian love. I came out late in life (40) and my identity as a lesbian is very precious to me. I spent many years confused about why I didn’t feel like my authentic self. I guess I’m a late bloomer. The title, “Know Now Then” comes from the title of an Ani DiFranco song that contains the sentiment about a female relationship that should have been closer, and the line “I didn’t know what I know now then”.

Artist Statement:
My name is Lisa Tsiopras. I live in Bow, NH with my wife and a very spoiled German Shepherd. Mosaics and stained glass are my passions. I’m most interested in portraiture and realism, but I dive into abstract as well. I work with many mosaic materials, but glass is my first love. Glass is light made solid, and visual art is all about light. Magnolia Mosaics was started in my home in 2023, and it is truly a labor of love and a passion for my art. I hope that when you look at my work, you can feel the emotion I felt when creating it.
